Why barkcloth for SylvieBags?
There's something irresistible about vintage barkcloth...
...the nubby texture of the material, the mid-century design aesthetic and the color combinations, all of it is just fabulous! Many of my customers feel the way that I do about this special, sought-after material.
You know it's a SylvieBag when you see our rainbow zippers!
I discovered riri zippers back in 1998. These beautiful, high quality and unique zippers are made in Switzerland. They have become a recognizable feature of every SylvieBag! The best part is, they are custom-made for me, and the colored teeth make each zipper look like a rainbow!
The hand beading adds that final flair that makes your SylvieBag truly one of a kind.
The beads are imported Czech glass beads that I special order to complement the colors in the fabric beautifully. (Keep reading in a moment so we can give proper recognition to the amazing local artisan who has been beading our SylvieBags for the last eight years and counting...)
Sylvie’s assistants help make the bags what they are!
Shirley Dewing of Chappaquiddick has sewn every single lining, pocket, and zipper into every SylvieBag for exactly 20 years! (WOW!) We have counted more than 5,000 purses Shirley has helped create. Her skill paired with her lovely personality and positive attitude are great assets!
Our hand-beading artisan is Elizabeth Greene of West Tisbury. She is the most creative person I know and makes the bags shine with her beautiful beadwork! Elizabeth is the kind of person who can turn anything into a work of art. Have I mentioned that she can make me laugh like nobody else?
I am lucky and grateful to count these women as my dear friends for over 20 years, and together we create a truly recognizable, authentic, and island-made accessory.
